Resource Guide for Graduate Students
Support Options
As a graduate student, you have several individuals positioned to make decisions about and support you:

- Your Supervisor
- Your Supervisory Committee Members
- Your Graduate Advisor and your Graduate Secretary. Find out who this is here.
- The Director of the Department.
- An Associate-Dean or Dean of the Faculty where you study
- An Associate-Dean or Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies
For further assistance or support, there are several places you could turn:

- The staff at the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS)
- The Graduate Admissions & Records Office (GARO)
- The Graduate Students’ Society (GSS), who can provide resources, support, and advocacy.
- The Centre for Accessible Learning, who administers accommodations and provides support for student’s with disabilities
- The Student Wellness Centre, for spiritual or health related services
- The Office of Indigenous Academic and Community Engagement (IACE)
- The Division of Student Affaires
- The Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation Centre, which provides information and support about academic integrity and how to avoid plagiarism.
- The Ombudsperson offers confidential consultations if you have questions about your rights and responsibilities, or if you are not sure how to resolve a dispute. Be proactive – don’t hesitate to contact the Ombudsperson.
Rules & Regulations
Graduate students can turn to several places to find the rules that govern their experience. If you are encountering a problem or dispute, you should refer to these resources as one of your first steps:

- The Graduate Calendar is the primary source for information for Graduate Students.
- The Graduate Supervision Policy outlines the responsibilities and obligations of the supervisor and the supervised student
- Your Graduate Handbook, which each department is required to produce and publish. You can often find it on your department’s website.
- The Faculty of Graduate Studies’ Forms and Policies website
